Arronax a été construit à l’initiative conjointe du laboratoire Subatech (UMR 6457) et du Centre Recherche en Cancérologie et en Immunologie de Nantes (CRCINA, UMR 1232) pour lesquels il constitue un outil de recherche majeur.
Le cyclotron est ouvert aux projets émanant de tous les laboratoires académiques intéressés en Europe et ,sous certaines conditions, aux industriels.
Un conseil scientifique international se réunit tous les ans pour évaluer les travaux réalisés et conseiller la direction sur les orientations les plus prometteuses.
